The recording process - a geeks guide to happiness!

Since we already have an active blog on myspace, I thought this would be a good place to talk about the recording process of our latest album Razor Blade Spine.
We actually started working on the album in 2005. Every album has had a different approach in crafting the songs. On our first album, Vanessa brought the completed songs to the table and the band would jam them out during practice sessions. As time went on, (in the What the Wind Bring era) Vanessa and I started developing song idea's during one on one jams. We would record the whole jam and highlight any good parts that would become the basis for interesting songs. Since 1999, we've been refining our sound - every recording sounded better has we got comfortable with the studio.
In 2002, the Waiting for Rabbit album brought us to a little heavier sounding album. I guess at the time Vanessa and I were into some heavier music? It was totally crafted in the studio using Vanessa's piano & vocal song drafts. The album featured allot of heavy guitar tracks and no bass per say. It was piano, drums, guitars and Hammond. It certainly made for an interesting album! We certainly had the luxury of recording what ever we felt like at that point in time. Being an independent band, we're not tired to expectations from a label who in the end is only thinking about profits. To this day, I find the Waiting for Rabbit album a little experimental.
Let me stop here... I'll resume a little later..
